Over het IJ Festival

Who we are

We are part of the Over het IJ Festival, an annual summer event mainly taking place at the NDSM Wharf at the northern shore of the river IJ. The festival is known for its location-specific theatre and for the shows performed inside shipping containers, featuring all kinds of art disciplines. This year it takes place from 8 until 17 July.

What we do

During FabCity, we present a special international edition of The Sea Container Project at Kop of Java island. Performances of maximum fifteen minutes are created and developed on the spot, open for the audience as an open lab at fixed times. The containers are used by ten students and newly graduated makers from art schools in the Netherlands, Europe and the rest of the world.

Why we are here

We have challenged the theatre makers and artists involved to take a different perspective on the city and come up with a proposal for a better, different city – their (European) city of tomorrow. The performances are works in progress and we invite visitors to contribute.

What we want

We are considering this a great opportunity to connect and collaborate with other participants at FabCity. The performances created at FabCity will become part of the festival programme in July.

Open to the public Friday until Monday, starting 27 May up and until 26 June.
